Hokusai (1760 - 1849) Japanese Woodblock Reprint
Sunset Glow at Jungai (Jungai sekisho)

Series; Eight Views of the Ryukyu Islands

Adachi Publisher - This beautiful reprint is from the famous Tokyo publisher Adachi, one of the most respected publishers of the 20th century. Adachi woodblocks were printed to the highest standards of quality with excellent color and fine detail. The Adachi woodblock printers were known to be the best in the business. Founded in 1925, Adachi also chose interesting and varied subjects for their prints and was the only publisher of many famous old ukiyo-e images. This print is sealed with the Adachi seal in ink.

Sunset Glow at Jungai (Jungai sekisho) - Striking view of Jungai in the Ryukyu Islands at sunset. The rocky peninsula seems to float above the water, a walled fortress atop the peak and a torii gate down below at right. An intriguing design, nicely detailed with fine bokashi shading and embossing on the white clouds drifting across the scene. The first time we've offered this subject in reprint.

Artist - Hokusai (1760 - 1849)

Image Size - 9 7/8" x 15 1/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. A few light creases. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
