One Famous Views of Edo - In 1856, Hiroshige began designing what was to be his last great series and a masterpiece, "One Hundred Famous Views of Edo." Each print from this series was a classic Hiroshige landscape work, taking advantage of the vertical format to capture a slice of life from Edo in dramatic and interesting ways. The series was very popular with the public and new releases were eagerly anticipated over the time that Hiroshige released the designs. Beautifully colored and finely printed, our prints from this series are a nice opportunity to collect these 19th century landscape images.
Takamizawa Reprints - Handsome reprint by the venerable Takamizawa publisher. Takamizawa was known as one of the finest reprint publishers of the 20th century, and produced some of the highest quality ukiyo-e woodblock reprints of all time. A great opportunity to acquire a fine reprint of a classic ukiyo-e design.
Aoi Slope, Outside Toranomon Gate - A terrific Hiroshige nighttime scene, depicting a winter evening in Edo. The horizon is still glowing from the setting sun and stars have just appeared in the night sky. Geese fly across the moon and pedestrians make their ways home on the chilly evening. In the foreground, two apprentices return from customary winter visits to bathe in icy water at temples, where they would pray to improve their skills. A fine Hiroshige design with excellent color and fine detail.
