Travelers Taking a Break

Comments - Charming scene of travelers taking a break in the countryside. At right two palanquin bearers set down the conveyance as a beauty prepare to step outside, a large cloth bundle tied to the roof. Beside, them a young woman with her hair protectively wrapped in cloth looks over her shoulder with a somewhat surprised expression at a man smoking a pipe. He carries a pipe case and tobacco pouch, and has a robe draped over his shoulder. Trees are covered with autumn foliage, and the snow capped peak of Mt. Fuji can be seen in the distance. An attractive Edo era scene with wonderful detail.

Artist - Eizan (1787 - 1867)

Image Size - 8 3/8" x 13 7/8"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Slight paper remnants on reverse at left corners from previous mounting. Slight toning and soiling, paper inclusion. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
