Utamaro (1750 - 1806) Japanese Woodblock Reprint
Takashima Ohisa

Adachi Publisher - This beautiful reprint is from the famous Tokyo publisher Adachi, one of the most respected publishers of the 20th century. Adachi woodblocks were printed to the highest standards of quality with excellent color and fine detail. The Adachi woodblock printers were known to be the best in the business. Founded in 1925, Adachi also chose interesting and varied subjects for their prints and was the only publisher of many famous old ukiyo-e images. This print is sealed with the Adachi seal in ink.

Comments - Lovely portrait of the beauty Takashima Ohisa in formal kimono holding a round fan, smiling as she looks back over her shoulder. She looks back over her shoulder with a smile, wearing a sheer black patterned kimono over a mauve colored under robe, tied with a green obi with a design of birds in flight. A classic beauty print by Utamaro with fine line work in the hair and a shimmering mica background.
