Higashiyama Yoshimasa in Retirement Watching Plovers on the Yodo River, 1879 - Interesting scene of the retired Shogun Higashiyama Yoshimasa on a dark evening, watching plovers taking flight above the Yodo River. Bundled up against the cool evening air, he wears a black coat with a subtle burnished pattern over a white kimono tucked into purple butterfly print hakama pants, a black scarf wrapped around his head. A servant crouches behind him, looking up at the sky as water laps against the shore and bare branches wave in the wind overhead. A handsome, atmospheric design.
