Pinks by Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Reprint

Series; Elegant Floral Calendar

Pinks - Charming print of a mother carrying a baby who seems to be just waking up, rubbing his eyes sleepily. The beauty wears a blue and white kimono patterned with bats, one of which appears to be reading, tied with a black obi that reverses to a gray and white stripe. Behind her, a pile of bedding rests atop a bed, and small toys including a wheeled fish, a top, and a doll with a lion dance mask. Pinks or dianthus frame the oval title cartouche at upper right. A nicely detailed design. We've never before seen this subject in reprint.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 5/8" x 9 3/4" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Thinning on reverse at left corners from previous mounting. Faint toning, a few small spots, slight creasing at corners. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
