Yui by Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Reprint

Series; The Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido

Yui - Attractive portrait of a beauty dressed as a monk or priest traveling along the Tokaido Road. She wears a gray robe and carries a portable shrine on her back, and uses a shakujou or walking staff topped with a ringed finial. A border of clouds separates the figure from a view of Yui, with travelers visible winding around the cliff at right and Mt. Fuji in the distance. A charming image we've never before seen in reprint.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 10 1/8" x 7 1/2" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Slight toning, tiny crease at edge. Watermark in paper at upper right where pigment has not completely adhered. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
