Utamaro (1750 - 1806) Japanese Woodblock Reprint
Hour of the Dog (8 to 10 pm)

Series; Twelve Hours in the Yoshiwara

Adachi Publisher - This beautiful reprint is from the famous Tokyo publisher Adachi, one of the most respected publishers of the 20th century. Adachi woodblocks were printed to the highest standards of quality with excellent color and fine detail. The Adachi woodblock printers were known to be the best in the business. Founded in 1925, Adachi also chose interesting and varied subjects for their prints and was the only publisher of many famous old ukiyo-e images. This print is sealed with the Adachi seal in ink.

Hour of the Dog (8 to 10 pm) - Charming image of a courtesan writing a long letter, pausing to whisper a message into her young attendant's ear. The long roll of paper trails down over her robes, a writing set and a tobacco set within easy reach. Lovely color and detail in the elegant kimono and obi fabrics. To emulate the original print, the background is flecked with metallic pigment that has oxidized to a dark tone.
