Shuncho (active 1780 - 1795 Japanese Woodblock Reprint
Courtesan at the Water's Edge

Adachi Publisher - This beautiful reprint is from the famous Tokyo publisher Adachi, one of the most respected publishers of the 20th century. Adachi woodblocks were printed to the highest standards of quality with excellent color and fine detail. The Adachi woodblock printers were known to be the best in the business. Founded in 1925, Adachi also chose interesting and varied subjects for their prints and was the only publisher of many famous old ukiyo-e images. This print is sealed with the Adachi seal in ink.

Comments - Handsome kabuki portrait of a courtesan standing on an embankment, a slender pipe in her hand. She wears a blue and white striped kimono over a red under robe, her red print obi tied in a large bow. At left, a dock extends over the water and a tree frames the scene overhead. Nicely detailed.

Image Size - 11 1/4" x 5 3/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. A couple light creases at edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
