Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
The Fourth Month, 1856

Series; Genji in the Twelve Months

The Fourth Month, 1856 - Beautiful triptych of Prince Genji and several beauties visiting Kiyomizu Temple, enjoying a stroll around the grounds. The prince crouches next to a palanquin at left, shielding his eyes with a fan as he watches a bird swoop across the sky above. In the center, a woman holds an umbrella overhead as a young attendant follows behind. The women are elegantly dressed in sumptuously patterned kimono, the white collars and trim embossed with a textured pattern. The wide verandah of the temple can be seen at left, nestled among the trees against a hilltop. A very attractive subject, beautifully colored and detailed with embossing in the white kimono trim and fine bokashi shading in the background.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 29 1/4"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. Small hole, pinholes at top corners, repaired. Slight toning and soiling, light ink offsetting, a few creases. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
